What Happens After You Approve a Skincare Sample?
Approved your private label skincare sample? Learn what beauty brands should confirm before bulk production, from artwork and packaging to PO, production and shipping.
Getting the skincare sample approved feels like a major milestone.
But for a private label skincare project, sample approval does not mean the project is ready for production immediately.
There are still several details that buyers should lock down before the factory starts bulk manufacturing.
The goal is simple:
Make sure the product you approved is the product you actually receive.
1. Freeze the Final Formula
Once the formula is approved, confirm the exact version that will be used for bulk production.
This is especially important if several sample rounds were developed.
Both sides should clearly know:
Which sample is the final approved version?
Avoid making small ingredient or texture changes after production materials have already been prepared unless they are truly necessary.
2. Confirm the Final Packaging
Next, confirm the complete packaging configuration:
- Bottle or jar
- Pump / dropper / cap
- Capacity
- Label
- Printing
- Outer box
- Inner protection
Packaging should already have been checked for both appearance and functionality.
A beautiful bottle is not enough if it leaks, dispenses poorly or creates problems during shipping.
3. Lock the Artwork
Before printing, carefully approve:
- Logo
- Product name
- Net content
- Barcode
- Label dimensions
- Printing position
- Box artwork
- Final file version
One small artwork mistake can become thousands of incorrect packages once mass production begins.
This is why the final artwork should be treated as a formal approval step, not a casual email attachment.
4. Confirm the Purchase Order Details
Before production, both sides should agree on:
SKU → Quantity → Unit Price → Packaging → Payment Terms → Lead Time → Shipping Requirement
This is also the right time to confirm whether packaging MOQ differs from finished-product MOQ.
For example, a brand may order 1,000 finished units while certain printed packaging components require a larger production quantity.
That should be clear before manufacturing starts.
A Real Project Lesson: Approval Is More Than Saying “Looks Good”
In one private label project, the brand had already approved the product concept, but there were still several packaging and shipping details to finalize before mass production.
Rather than rushing directly into production, the final configuration was confirmed first — product, individual packaging and shipping presentation.

Production approval confirms the entire order.
5. Ask What Will Be Checked During Production
Before the order starts, understand the factory's quality-control points.
Depending on the product, this may include:
- Raw material checks
- Bulk formula inspection
- Filling control
- Packaging inspection
- Printing checks
- Finished-product inspection
You do not need to manage the production line yourself.
But you should understand what is being controlled on your behalf.
6. Confirm the Timeline Before Launch Planning
A realistic timeline may include:
Material preparation → production → filling → packaging → QC → shipment
Do not plan a launch date based only on the filling time.
Packaging production, artwork approval and international shipping can also affect the schedule.
If your launch is tied to a holiday, campaign or retailer deadline, communicate that before bulk production begins.

A practical process is:
Final sample → formula lock → packaging approval → artwork approval → PO → bulk production → QC → shipping
